Lothar Herzog, born in Freiburg, Germany, grew up in Paris. He studied ‘Applied Cultural Studies’ in Hildesheim ‚Film Studies’ in San Francisco, and ‚Film Directing’ at the German Film&Television Academy (dffb) Berlin. His feature film ‘1986’ (WDR/ARTE coproduction) was screened on many international film festivals, won several prices, was released in German movie theatres, on TV and streaming. In 2016 the company ‚lothar herzog filmproduktion GmbH‘ was founded. The company specializes in the production and distribution of arthouse films. Also we are doing educational projects with a focus on intersectionality, postcolonialism, racism, antisemitism and German remembrance culture. In 2025 the documentary Film THE UNSPOKEN (co-directed by Patricia Hector) was released. Film and accompanying workshops were funded by the Foundation for Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ). The film sreened at International Film Festivals, won the ‚Granit‘ price for the best documentary at the International Film Festival Hof and a Special Mention at the Film Festival ‚Filmare La Storia‘. THE UNSPOKEN is now showing in German movie theaters. It will be presented at the National Cinema Museum Turin on the 27th January 2026 by Carlo Chatrian.
