Lothar Herzog

Lothar Herzog, born in Freiburg, Germany, grew up in Paris. He studied Applied Cultural Studies in Hildesheim and Film Studies in San Francisco. He worked on theatre productions, shot video installations and worked on educational projects and workshops. Then he studied Film Directing at the German Film & Television Academy (dffb) in Berlin. His short films were shown at numerous international film festivals, among others in Cannes and at the ‚Berlinale’. He founded the lothar herzog filmproduktion gmbh in 2016 in order to produce his own films. In 2019/20 his first feature film ‚1986‘ (WDR/ARTE-coproduction) was presented at many international film festivals, was nominated for the German First Steps Awards, won the First Steps Production Award and the Gold Price for Best Directing at the Hof International Film Festival. The film ‚1986‘ will have its theatrical release in Germany in May 2021.
