Lothar Herzog, born in Freiburg, Germany, grew up in Paris. He studied ‘Applied Cultural Studies’ in Hildesheim ‚Film Studies’ in San Francisco, and ‚Film Directing’ at the German Film & Television Academy (dffb) in Berlin. His first feature film ‘1986’ (WDR/ARTE coproduction) was screened on many international film festivals, won several prices, was released in German movie theatres, on TV and streaming. In 2016 he founded the ‚lothar herzog filmproduktion GmbH‘. The company specializes in the production and distribution of high quality arthouse film content. Also we are doing political and cultural education work with a special focus on intersectionality, postcolonialism, racism, antisemitism and Shoah education. In 2025 a workshop campaign at German schools will accompany the release of the film ‘The Unspoken’ (Das Ungesagte). The workshops were developed and financed with help of the Foundation for Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ). ‚The Unspoken‘ (co-directed by Patricia Hector) is a documentary about the last witnesses of the Nazi Regime in Germany focussing on the bystanders and involved of the Regime. The film will be released in November 2025.
